infused water at KK

That’s me on the left serving my infused water to some Kennedy Krieger employees during their “Drink Water” Challenge month.

For all following recipes, you can make a small amount right in a glass or water bottle to drink immediately, but for more flavor I recommend making a larger amount in a glass pitcher or large mason jar and refrigerating overnight. The below recipes are for about a 1/2 gallon of water and I recommend letting them sit in the fridge for at least 2 hours before drinking. *In none of these recipes do you HAVE to strain ingredients out first, it just makes it look much nicer and presentable without mangled pieces of fruit and herbs floating around.

 

Watermelon Basil

Muddle 20-25 freshly washed sweet basil leaves with 1 C seedless watermelon. Add to 1/2 gallon of water with a few fresh sprigs of basil and 1 C seedless watermelon cubes. You could also try substituting the original 20-25 basil leaves with 2 drops doTERRA Basil Essential Oil.

Cucumber Lime Mint

Muddle 20-25 freshly washed mint leaves with 1 whole lime (quartered) and 1/2 a cucumber. Add to 1/2 gallon of water and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. Strain water (toss remnants of lime, mint, cucumber) and add 2 sprigs of fresh mint, 1/2 a cucumber sliced, and squeeze a little more lime juice in or add 2-4 drops of doTERRA Lime Essential Oil.

Blueberry Pineapple

Muddle 1/2 C fresh blueberries into 1/2 gallon of water. Then add another 1/2 C fresh blueberries and 2 C pineapple chunks (fresh or canned). This is the sweetest of them all because of the pineapple and muddled blueberries. If you don’t muddle any blueberries, it will be less sweet.

Grapefruit Ginger

Easy Essential Oil Version – Add 1 drop Ginger and 3 drops Grapefruit to 1/2 gallon of water.

Whole Fruit Version – Squeeze the juice of 1/2 a grapefruit into 1/2 gallon of water. Add 1.5 Grapefruit worth of sliced and peeled grapefruit chunks + about 1″ of peeled ginger root. Let sit in fridge for at least 4 hours.

Strawberry or Raspberry Lemon

Muddle 1 C berries into 1/2 gallon of water and let sit in fridge for at least 2 hours. Strain fruit out and add 2 C fresh berries + 1 whole lemon, squeezing the juice out first, to the water. Pour some in a glass and put the rest back in the fridge for later!

Watermelon Cucumber Juice

This is not an infused water, but a delicious way to stay hydrated on a long hot day in the sun or for a quick pick-me-up after a WOD.

I used the leftover “cucumber juice” from making cucumber noodles to blend with 1 C watermelon chunks. So simple, and so refreshing! Go make yourself some Cucumber Noodles┬áso you can enjoy this cold, electrolyte and vitamin filled all natural beverage ASAP!
