Do you have goals you’ve been struggling to achieve regarding body image, weight, strength or endurance improvements?
Well then I have a little exercise for you…..
First, write down exactly WHAT it is you are looking to achieve. Is it a weight? Do you want to get 5 bodyweight pullups? Fit into your size 8 pants?
WHEN do you want to achieve that goal by? Write it down right next to the goal!
Then I want you to take a minute to think about your why. WHY do you want to achieve the goal(s) that you just wrote down? How important is it and how would it change your life if you achieved it? This is an important one. If you don’t have a strong why, then your goal will be more of a dream.
Here’s the kicker…the part that will show you how important this goal is to you. HOW have you been working to accomplish that goal? What changes have you made to your lifestyle that would lead towards success? Do you incorporate that change on a hourly/daily/weekly/monthly basis? How consistent are you?
Go ahead! Write down all the changes you have made in the last 3 months that you think should have helped you reach your goals, but just plain haven’t!
THAT is the SECRET SAUCE!!!! Creating a goal, knowing your why and making a plan. Without the above, you’ll never get anywhere and definitely won’t get there fast!
The only thing missing is accountability. You have a plan, you know what you’re supposed to do, but if you haven’t clarified your why and don’t have anyone to check up on you, it’s near impossible to carry that plan out consistently!
I’ve been there many, many times myself. With my nutrition, with my fitness, with stretching, and even in running my business. I have goals, I create a plan on how I’m going to achieve those goals, and I THINK I know my why. But until I write that “why” down and get someone to hold me accountable, I’m just running on the hamster wheel and never really getting anywhere.
That is exactly why I have hired people to help me! I have a business mentor. I have a personal trainer, even though my previous career was as a personal trainer. I have worked with nutrition coaches in the past so I had someone to hold me accountable for my actions. I work with a fascial stretch therapist and take stretch classes because I know I won’t do it enough on my own.
There are many reasons to hire a coach/mentor, mine is often because I do all of these things for so many other people that when it comes time for myself I don’t want to have to think about it. And I need the accountability.
