Chocolate PB Protein Mug Cake

Do you have a major sweet tooth like me?

Looking for a healthier alternative that’s easy to make, easily fits into your macros, and won’t take up all your calories for the day?

Meet the Mug Cake!

Mug cakes are awesome because you can alter the flavor with various ingredients like fruit, cocoa powder, peanut butter, vanilla extract, or even just by using different flavored protein powders! They take under 5 minutes to make, taste like dessert, and have the protein content of a full meal!

What really makes this hit the (sweet) spot, is the NuNaturals Cocoa Syrup. It’s only the best replacement for Herhsey’s Chocolate Syrup ever! It’s got the same consistency with a richer, darker flavor, and no sugar! The best part? You only need about 1/4 tsp each time you use it so one bottle will last you 6 months – 1 year depending on how often you use it! WARNING: The pictures below are not beautifully styled food pictures. They aren’t the prettiest, but this is what your mug cake will look like in real life. I PROMISE it tastes better than it looks! The consistency is fairly moist and spongey. Definitely not hard or rubbery, but when I tried it with a plant based protein powder it came out very rubbery. So stick with beef, whey, or egg white protein for best results.

Mug Cake on a plate

1 large egg

1 scoop Equip Foods Protein Powder (works best with animal proteins)

2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder

1 tbsp All Natural Peanut Butter or other favorite

1/4 C unsweetened Almond Milk

Pinch Baking Soda

1 tsp NuNaturals Cocoa Syrup (stevia sweetened calorie free syrup and sooooo yummy!)

Stir all ingredients together in a coffee mug until smooth. Make sure to smash out all the clumps.

You do not need to grease the mug. I promise, as it cooks, the batter will separate from the mug on its on.

Once thoroughly mixed, heat in microwave for 1:30 – 2:00 or until mixture has become firm but bouncy, like a cake!

Remove and let cool for a few minutes and then dig in with a spoon.

Optional toppings: Add a dallop of freshly made heavy whipping cream if you do dairy, if not my favorite is the *SO Delicious Coco Whip! Then drizzle with more NuNaturals Cocoa Syrup

*Found in the freezer section in most grocery stores. Sometimes near the dairy free ice cream, sometimes near the regular cool whip.
