Get excited! This healthier, dairy free version of Pumpkin Spice Creamer will allow you to make your own PSLs with all the taste and less than half the sugar! I will warn you, it will taste nothing like the PSL you would get at Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts, or the bottled Pumpkin Spice creamers you can buy in the store. This is a good thing though! I have a challenge for you….
Take a bite of pure unsweetened canned pumpkin. Then, take a sip of a store bought PSL.
Take a bite of homemade pumpkin pie. Then, take a sip of store bought PSL.
Do either of them taste similar? Which flavors do you prefer and why?
The canned pumpkin may taste bland to you, but I would like to think the pumpkin pie will taste more like pumpkin and comforting spices than the PSL which might as well just be a cup of milk & high fructose corn syrup….oh wait, it already is. The flavors are so overwhelmingly fake once you really take the time to notice.
The more added sugar you cut from your diet (meaning it did not already exist in nature), the more your taste buds will adjust and your brain will be able to identify and appreciate the natural sweetness and true taste of food. It may take months for some of you to get to that point, but for those who are willing to make a big change and go cold turkey (check out my 21 Day Sugar Detox Challenge), those changes happen almost immediately! Things that were once sweet, become “too sweet” in a matter of days. Things that once tasted bland are now brimming with flavor a few weeks later. It’s pretty amazing.

~Makes about 4-6 servings depending on how you use it
Prep Time: 5 min, Cook Time: 20 min, Total Time: 45 min
1/4 C Full Fat Coconut Milk (I recommend Golden Star)
1/2 C Unsweetened Almond Milk Creamer (NutPods or Califia Farms)
1/4 C Canned Pumpkin
1 tbsp Maple Syrup
1/4 TSP Vanilla Extract
1 whole Cinnamon Stick
2 tbsp Pumpkin Pie Spice (Primal Palate)
Warm all ingredients in a small sauce pan, cover and simmer at a very low heat for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let cool (another 20 minutes). Remove cinnamon stick and pour creamer into a mason jar to keep fresh in the fridge for about 1.5 weeks.
Coffee Drinks Using Pumpkin Spice Creamer
Pumpkin Spice Latte
2 shots espressso + 1/2 C warmed Almond milk + 1/4 C Pumpkin Spice Creamer
Pumpkin Spice Caffe au lait
1 C Pumpkin Spice Coffee (I really like Trader Joe’s) + 1/4 C Pumpkin Spice Creamer
Iced Pumpkin Spice Latte or Coffee
Just add ice to the above recipes
Iced Pumpkin Spice Dirty Chai Latte
Brew a strong cup (2 tea bags) of herbal Chai tea. When ready, pour it over a large cup of ice. Add 1 shot espresso + 1/2 C Pumpkin Spice Creamer. Drink with a straw!
*Top beverages with coconut whipped cream (S.O. Delicious makes one or you could DIY) and a sprinkle of cinnamon or extra pumpkin pie spice.
