You’ve probably seen some information floating around by now about the upcoming nutrition challenge in January. Making a big change to anything in your life can be scary and intimidating so I wanted to explain a little more about how all this is going to work.
For starters, in case you did not know, I have a Masters Degree in Nutrition & Integrative Health, am a Certified Nutrition Specialist, and a Licensed Nutritionist in the state of MD. I have been working with my own clients, friends at the gym, and my dad’s patients (he is a physician) for over 5 years now helping them improve their diets with the goal of living a longer healthier and happier life. Read more about me here. I have decided that my New Year Resolution for 2016 is to help at least 500 people bust sugar & carb cravings. That is what inspired me to become a Certified 21 Day Sugar Detox Coach. It is the perfect program to give anyone a jump start to a healthier and happier life.
This program is great for weight loss, but that is not the main focus. You can pretty much name any illness, disease or health issue – physical or mental, that could show improvements with just 21 days of eliminating sugar from your diet. I’ll name a few to see if any catch your eye:
– Menopausal/PMS symptoms
– Joint pain
– Digestive Issues
– High Cholesterol
– Diabetes, Type I & II
– Insulin Resistance
– Chronic Headaches or Migraines
– Trouble falling asleep or staying asleep
– Anxiety or Depression
Do you or anyone you know deal with 1 or more of the above? Did you know that your diet could play a role in the healing process? The gut, where all your food is digested and nutrients are absorbed and dispersed, is also known as your “second brain.” This is due to the fact that the health of your gut is important for the health of the rest of your body.
The main thing to know about The 21 Day Sugar Detox is that there are 3 possible levels at which to complete the challenge, with Level 1 including some gluten-free grains and dairy and Level 3 being strict Paleo. It is fit for everyone including kids, diabetics, athletes, pregnant or breastfeeding moms, teenagers, pescetarians, and those with autoimmune diseases. The only group of people this detox would not suit well are strict vegans who do not eat any type of animal products. It would be difficult to follow this protocol without at least daily consumption of eggs and fish and be able to get in enough protein and overall calories.
Consider some of the things mentioned above, as well as any other health goals you might have and how nutrition might play a role into helping you achieve those goals. The nutrition talk I will be giving at CrossFit PCR on January 3rd from 4-5:30pm will be on goal setting for the New Year and how to detoxify your body from all the Christmas cookies and egg nog you may have indulged in recently. As always, I will have helpful handouts and a healthy treat to share along with a recipe. The cost for this talk is $25 and you can sign up for it here (please do so by Dec. 31 if possible): CLICK HERE
*Please note that if you attend the talk, I will put the $25 you paid towards any private coaching service with the January 21 Day Sugar Detox. Just let me know at the talk or send me an email afterwards and I’ll send you the discount link. The last half hour of the talk will be Q&A for The 21 DSD so please try to make it if you can!*
Have more questions, like what exactly is this 21 Day Sugar Detox? What foods are allowed vs. not allowed? Can I drink alcohol? Can I eat out? Can I participate if I’m a vegetarian? All of these questions and more can be answered by going to my website HERE. Once you have read through what my private coaching services will offer, click on the link to purchase the online program and you will find a lot more information. If you prefer to listen, check out Diane Sanfilippo on Facebook or Periscope (a free phone app). Diane is the creator of The 21 DSD and has been doing live Q&A sessions about the detox almost every day recently. That is also where you can sign up for the program.
Of course, if you have further questions and can not make it to the talk on Jan. 3rd, please talk to me at the gym or shoot over an email to Jamie@Crossfitpcr.com.
I wanted to leave you with a few success stories from my last coaching group:
I look forward to guiding you on a journey to better health in 2016. Let me know if there is any way that I can help!
